Weekly Updates

Term 4, Week 9 (December 11th - December 15th)



  • Goat Island Trip - Monday. We need to leave as close as we can to 9:00am so please ensure your child is at school on time.They will need to be in full uniform, including shoes and hat. Please sunblock them before school and send them with extra if they will need it during the day.Please send them with a packed lunch and drink bottle for the day.If your child gets travel sick please send them with some form of container/bag just in case! We will not be swimming but we are planning a beach/rock walk so suitable footwear is important.
  • Tuesday - middle block visit to the beach. Please ensure your child has their bucket hat and sunscreen :)
  • Wednesday 13th December - Shared high tea to celebrate an awesome year with L4. Instead of having a class party this year we thought we would have a high tea (or a high hot chocolate for those that disliked the idea). Children please bring along a cup and saucer if you have one. Miss S has plenty to share so don't fret if you do not have one in the house. We also ask that you please bring a small plate of finger food to share on this occasion. Ideas- crackers, dip, fruit, biscuits, cake etc  For any parents or caregivers that would like to come along and be a waiter/waitress we will be having our tea party at 11:30-12:40 on Wednesday 13th December. 
  • Thursday -  Prize giving assembly 11.00 - 12.30pm. Reports and classes for 2018 go home
  • Friday - School finishes at 12.30


Term 4, Week 8 (December 4th - December 8th)



  • Community picnic - December 4th 6.00 - 7.30pm. Will be great to see everyone there :)
  • Water Slide - Tuesday for Year 4 and Wednesday for Year 3
  • All library books need to be returned by the end of the week please
  • Thursday- We hope to do some Christmas baking. If you are able to donate a packet of plain biscuits or condensed milk we would really appreciate this :) 
  • Week 9 - Wednesday 13th December - Shared high tea to celebrate an awesome year with L4. Instead of having a class party this year we thought we would have a high tea (or a high hot chocolate for those that disliked the idea). Children please bring along a cup and saucer if you have one.   • Keeping ourselves Safe unit starts this week.
  • Water slide starts this week - Friday
  • Community picnic - December 4th 6.00 - 7.30pm. Will be great to see everyone there :)
  • Friday - passion Friday
  • Assembly on Friday 2.20pm school hall.
  • We are hoping to do some Christmas baking in Week 8 and 9. If you are able to contribute an ingredient towards this it would be very much appreciated. The ingredients we are collecting are
    • plain biscuits
    • coconut
    • condensed milk
    • cocoa powder
    • chocolate buttons


Term 4, Week 6 (November 20th - November 24th)

  • Remember hats need to be worn this term. If you don't have the correct school bucket hat you will need to sit under the shade :)
  • I'll be at a tag tournament on Tuesday so my class will be split. 
  • Wednesday - Year 3 and 4 athletics. Please remember your hat and to put on suntan lotion before school. Appropriate clothes to be worn. No singlets as we will be out in the sun.
  • Assembly - Friday 2.20pm in the hall.

Term 4, Week 5 (November 13th - November 17th)

  • Remember hats need to be worn this term. If you don't have the correct school bucket hat you will need to sit under the shade :)
  • Tuesday - library.Bring your books back so you can get some more out
  • Book Fair this week!
  • Wednesday and Thursday - Tennis across the road at Edith Hopper during lunchtime.
  • Friday - Honey Bee Centre trip! Remember you will need to be in correct school uniform, bring your lunch and water bottle and also your school bucket hat.

Term 4, Week 4 (November 6th - November 10th)

  • Remember hats need to be worn this term. If you don't have the correct school bucket hat you will need to sit under the shade :)
  • Tuesday - library.Bring your books back so you can get some more out
  • Wednesday and Thursday - During lunchtime for the next 3-4 weeks there will be an opportunity for year 3 and 4 students to walk across the road with teachers to practise their tennis and get some extra tips from Ken, our local tennis coach. This is not compulsory and students can pick and choose which weeks they would like to attend. 
  • Coming up- Class Trip to Warkworth Honey Centre and Parry Kauri Park Museum to explore the nature of Bee’s, their biology, habits, hives and how they help sustain our ecology. We will also visit the Parry Kauri Park Museum and walk to examine the historical impact of settling in New Zealand and observe examples of our native flora and fauna. Friday 17th November

Term 4, Week 3 (October 30th - November 3rd)

  • Tuesday - library.Bring your books back so you can get some more out
  • Wednesday - athletics practise in the afternoon
  • Thursday - During lunchtime for the next 3-4 weeks there will be an opportunity for year 3 and 4 students to walk across the road with teachers to practise their tennis and get some extra tips from Ken, our local tennis coach. This is not compulsory and students can pick and choose which weeks they would like to attend. A tennis racquet is beneficial but not essential as we have some school ones that we can take.

  • Term 4, Week 2 (October 24th - October 27th)

  • Athletics practise starts this week during PE time.

Term 4, Week 1 (October 16th - October 20th)

Term 3, Week 10 (September 25th - September 29th)

Term 3, Week 9 (September 18th - September 22nd)

  • Thursday - Class split - Mrs Maurice is at a rippa tournament with the year 5/6s

  • This Friday is a mufti day. To wear mufti you need to bring a can of food to school. This is to support the Salvation Army who are trying to help families in our community who do not have enough money for food. Can you please put this in your blogs. Thanks.



    Term 3, Week 8 (September 11th - September 15th)


    WOW what an amazing week had by all. EOTC week was awesome and the students did so well. Year 4 camp was equally as challenging and awesome. I'm looking forward to catching up with everyone again this week to hear all your favourite things from last week!

    • Monday - Team and Cultural photos in the hall with photolife
    • Class split for the first two blocks - I'm on a school visit
    • Library on Tuesday - please be prepared and bring your books in to re issue or to get some new ones out.
    • Book and reading day on Wednesday. No need to do anything - we are going to have an awesome day doing some cool reading activities. Our VLC theme is Dr Seuss!  Don't miss this day its going to be sooo cool! If you've got any Dr Seuss books bring them along!
    • Rippa tournament on Thursday - I'll be out of the classroom and my class will be split. 
    • Assembly on Friday - Our VLC is running assembly this week. Assembly starts at 2.20pm

    Term 3, Week 6 (August 28th - September 1st)

    Well done to all the cross country runners. What an awesome afternoon!

    This week in the afternoons the Year 4s are preparing for Camp Bentzon and the year 3s will be preparing for EOTC week. Such an exciting time! Camp payments and EOTC payment is due this Friday 1st September.
    • Library on Tuesday - please be prepared and bring your books in to re issue or to get some new ones out.

    Term 3, Week 5 (August 21st - August 25th)

    Parents please check your emails as there are a lot of notices regarding camp and the year 3's EOTC. Both are happening from Monday 4th September - 8th September.
     We need parents to help run this week. If you are able to can you please contact me or come in and see me. Thank you :)



    • Cross Country Training - Monday and Wednesday afternoon. Please bring your cross country gear.
    • Cross Country - The event will take place on Friday 25th at 12.30pm at Edith Hopper
    • Student/parent/teacher meetings on Tuesday. School finishes at 12.30pm.
    • On Thursday there is a meeting for all the parents who are attending Camp as helpers. The meeting will take place in the staff room at 6.30pm.

    Term 3, Week 4 (August 14th - August 18th)

    Parents please check your emails as there are a lot of notices regarding camp and the year 3's EOTC. Both are happening from Monday 4th September - 8th September.

    Term 3, Week 3 (August 7 - August 11th)


    CAMP FORMS!!!

    REMINDER THAT THE CAMP FORMS HANDED OUT TO THE YEAR 4 STUDENTS ARE DUE IN.


    • No cross country on Monday 7th August however we will continue with fitness. Cross country gear on Wednesday please :)


    • Library - Tuesday. Please remember your book bags and your books so you can reissue or change them.

    • Year 2 production on Wednesday afternoon

    • Friday - Passion Friday

    • Students need to remember to please charge their devices. A lot of students seem to be coming to school and their devices are flat and they haven't brought their chargers in.

    • Parent teacher catch ups for those needing to check in.

    FAQs re ‘Check in’ Meetings
    • The meetings are scheduled for this day. If however, you are feeling well informed at this point you can check in with the teacher at some other time. 
    • School will close at 12.30pm and we ask that children are collected promptly, or booked into After School Care. 
    • Our school values of ORCA empower students to take ownership and responsibility for their learning. As such, these meetings are for you to attend with your child. 
    • Due to time constraints we can only accommodate one interview time for each child. 
    • Each interview will be 12 minutes. If you have more than one child please don’t book back-to-back meeting times but allow yourself time between meetings.

    Term 3, Week 2 (July 31st - August 4th)

    CAMP FORMS!!!
    REMINDER THAT THE CAMP FORMS HANDED OUT TO THE YEAR 4 STUDENTS LAST WEEK ARE DUE IN BY FRIDAY 4TH AUGUST.

    • Library - Tuesday. Please remember your book bags and your books so you can reissue or change them.
    • Cross Country starts on Monday 31st July. All students will be participating in training for the cross country. Please bring extra clothes to run in. If your child is unable to run please send them to school with a signed note. Thank you :)
    • Full school assembly - Friday 2.20pm

    Term 3, Week 1 (July 24th - July 28th)


    • Library - Tuesday. Please remember your book bags and your books so you can reissue or change them.
    • Rippa Tournament Day ( Year 4 boys) - Tuesday 25th July
    • Get those raffle tickets sold everyone. If you can’t sell them, bring the tickets back in the next 2 days so that other students can sell them. We want and need ALL books sold so we can get as much money as possible to start our adventure playground fund.



    Term 2, Week 10(July 3rd- July 7th)


    Support guide dogs - biscuits are $1.00 (optional)

    • Rippa training for the year 4 teams on Tuesday and Thursday we have our 2nd tournament at Silverdale Rugby Club.

    • On Wednesday 31 May from 6.30 to 7.30pm in the school staffroom there will be a parent information evening presenting how we are progressing on our journey with e-Learning. The agenda for the evening will be:

      - Google Apps for Education.
      - Student tools for learning - sites / apps.
      - The SAMR model for integrating technology.
      - Good sites for learning at home.

Please encourage your child to read for 20mins each night. They have their readers as well as their library books!

    • Bikes -  This week (Thursday) we would love for the children to bring in their bikes and helmets.  Covered shoes are recommended.

    Term 1, Week 7 (March 13th- March 17th)

    Things to remember for this week:



    • Rosalie - our French student is leaving us on Monday 20th March.  It would be nice if we could have a shared lunch for her on Friday 17th March. Please if you can bring a small plate to share that would be fantastic!

    • SWIMMING - Swimming again on Monday (March 13th) The year 4s will be going to the pool with Mrs Maurice and the year 3s will be swimming in the school pool with Miss S. Please make sure your togstowelscap and goggles are in a named plastic bag.
    • Library - Our library day is Tuesday.  Please remember to bring in library books to either be reissued or returned.  Students are encouraged to bring in books from home or use their library books during SSR.     • Devices - Devices are to continue to come in every day. Please make sure the devices are charged ready for the next day.
    • Library - Our library day is Tuesday.  Please remember to bring in library books to either be reissued or returned.  Students are encouraged to bring in books from home or use their library books during SSR.
    • Bikes -  This week (Thursday) we would love for the children to bring in their bikes and helmets.  Covered shoes are recommended.  
    • Gala/Cakes  Cakes are due this Friday in support of the gala!  If you are able to bake a cake/muffins or a slice for the gala this is truly appreciated. Thank you for your support :) 
    • Passion Fridays-  This week (Friday) Passion Friday is going to start.  Students will be notified of their group, time and place. An email was sent out to parents so please check your email :) Parents this will need to be paid for before they start. Thank you!

    • SWIMMING - Swimming again on Monday (February 27th) The year 4s will be going to the pool with Mrs Maurice and the year 3s will be swimming in the school pool with Miss S. Please make sure your togs, towels, cap and goggles are in a named plastic bag.
    • Devices - Devices are to continue to come in every day. Please make sure the devices are charged ready for the next day.
    • Library - Our library day is Tuesday.  It would be great if the children had a book bag, these are useful and keep the books from school and newsletters protected.
    • Bikes -  This week (Thursday) we would love for the children to bring in their bikes and helmets.  Covered shoes are recommended. 
    • Mufti/Gala  - Mufti is on Friday. Boys are asked to bring in savoury items (chips, crackers, nuts) and girls are asked to bring in sweet items (biscuits, lollies, chocolate)
    • Water guns- Our day for the water gun fight is on Friday. Children are welcome to bring their togs, towel and water gun if they wish to. 



    Term 1, Week 4 (February 20th-24th)

    Things to remember for this week:

    • SWIMMING - Swimming starts tomorrow (Monday 20th).  The year 4s will be going to the pool with Miss S and the year 3s will be swimming in the school pool with Mrs Maurice. Please make sure your togs, towels, cap and goggles are in a named plastic bag.
    • Devices - Devices are to brought in every day starting Monday 20th.  Please make sure they are charged at night and ready to go. Please also sign the new contract form that was sent home and return asap.
    • Library - Our library day is Tuesday.  It would be great if the children had a book bag, these are useful and keep the books from school and newsletters protected.
    • Bikes -  This week (Thursday) we would love for the children to bring in their bikes and helmets.  Covered shoes are recommended.  If your child does not have a bike we hope to be able to access the school bikes and helmets. 
    • Mufti/Gala  - Mufti is on Friday. Children are asked to bring in bottles (alcohol to the office or soft drinks or condiments like mustards, oils pickles etc).
    • Waterslide - Our day on the waterslide is Friday. Children are welcome to bring their togs and towel if they wish to. 
    • Peaches and Pickles Form - If your child is interested in any of the activities for passion Fridays please send the form back in by Friday 24th Feb



    Term 1, Week 3 (February 13th-17th)

    Things to remember for this week:

    • SWIMMING-Our swimming day is Monday. Year 4 will be going to the Leisure Centre as of the 20th February.  Please make sure if your child is in year 4 that they bring the swimming permission form and pay the money at the office. :) Year 3 children will be swimming in the school pool on this day. Please ensure your child has their togs, towel and uniform all named to avoid these getting misplaced.
    • PERMISSION/SIGNED CONTRACT FORMS-Please return these to me ASAP.
    • LIBRARY- Our library day is Tuesday. We will be going to the library this week.  Book bags are to come to school everyday please.
    • Bikes -  If you have a bike please bring your bike on Thursday 16th February. We will begin our bike programme this week.
    • Gala/Mufti -  Mufti is Thursday 16th February.  Children are asked to bring in brand new/non edible items please. Raffle tickets were handed out today. Please send these back to the office when the tickets have been sold. Thank you :)
    • Waterslide - Our day on the waterslide is Friday. Children are welcome to bring their togs and towel if they wish to. 
    • Powhiri - A powhiri for new whanau and tamariki will take place at 10.00am at the school hall on Friday 17th February.  A shared morning tea will follow with our teams.  If each child could please bring a plate to share that would be great. Thank you :)




    Term 1, Week 1 & 2 (February 3rd-10th)

     Whanaungatanga / Connectedness

    In the first few weeks we will be looking at:
    • getting to know each other and making friends
    • developing a positive classroom culture
    • knowing ourselves and how we learn best
    • discussing our values and expectations
    • finding out what excites us about learning
    I look forward to meeting everyone and starting our learning journey together.
